1935 RILEY IMP (1)

1935 RILEY IMP (1)
In my opinion one of the prettiest vintage sports cars.
The Riley Imp was first produced in 1934 with a short production run lasting just 2 years with around 120 built. Powered by Riley's successful 9 hp engine fitted into a short chassis of 7 foot 6 inches, the Imp proved to be a very adept competitor on race circuits and rallies. AKV 443 was first delivered on 12th September 1935 to WS Gibson making this a late production car. Originally delivered with the standard specification of Wilson pre-selector gearbox and Zenith carburettors, Gibson fitted a Riley 'Silent 3rd' crash box and twin SUs circa 1938 (this being noted in a 1944 Autocar article, both modifications offered by Riley). Gibson sold the car in 1949 and over the next 16 years it was enjoyed by 6 known owners before ending up in the hands of the Peerless family. The family kept the car for the next 42 years before it was sold in extremely original ‘barn find’ condition. John Boyd proceeded to completely restore the Imp over the next 3 years to a high standard and it remains in this condition today, very original including the engine timing cover stamped with the correct matching number. Still fitted with its twin SUs and crash box as it was in 1938.
