They like a cool, damp climate like Scotland where they are grown a lot. I grow them in ericaceous soil in a container as they like neutral to acid soil and I keep them away from hot sun as much as possible. They are considered challenging to grow in the hotter, drier parts of the UK but I find them easy to germinate especially from fresh seed. The problem is getting them through the winter without a cool greenhouse so I find it better to store the seed in the fridge and sow in Jan or Feb. Snails are a major problems and vine weevils and vine weevils also attack them. I lose a lot that way and to difficult weather conditions.
