Adding to my previous comment for 'In My Opinion'.
Looking at the image in 2048 size, I can see more detail, and the glitter in his eyes is well captured. The white stitching is eye catching. This man has great character, a very worthy subject. His face is patchy in the detailed view which suggests a little over processing, and for my taste the overall tone is a shade too dark.

I really like the composition and square format, and this is a very appealing portrait.

Thanks Gillian. You are right, it is dark, intentionally so, and, yes, there are some issues with my processing. I produced it for a PI portraiture comp, where definition is not really paramount, the judged loved everything except the two horizontal light shafts BUT those were in my opinion essential! I may have another play at some point and perhaps introduce some grain for additional dirt and grittiness.

In My Opinion:

My first thought, Keith, is that this is a departure from your most prevalent landscape genre (although I see that you do have several portraits in your photo stream)...that is excellent. This is a great street portrait...you've captured a character that represents the whole point of street photography. I really like the composition, the profile, his bent arm with cigarette just extracted from his mouth, and the pièce de résistance: the smoke being blown out of his mouth...great timing! I also like the square crop and the processing, a bit contrasty, which goes with the feel of this character, in my opinion. I think it is a tad dark, although I like the background that dark. I might consider lightening just the subject to see how that looks. Very nice work!
