Blue Mormon Butterfly - Papilio polymnestor

Blue Mormon Butterfly - Papilio polymnestor
Endemic to Sri Lanka and to India, predominately the Western Ghats and the Southern and East coasts, the Blue Mormon - Papilio polymnestor - butterfly is a large swallowtail, (although this one seems to have lost some of its two wing tail extensions). A black butterfly with beautiful blue and white markings, it was chosen, and deserves to be, the state butterfly of the Maharashtra state of India. This one was seen at the Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, Goa, India.
