Grain Mill "Rijn en Lek"

Grain Mill "Rijn en Lek"
Netherlands, Wijk bij Duurstede, March 2007

This mill was built in 1659 on a town gate, so called Leuterpoort, which dates back to the 14th century. It is the only mill in the Netherlandds built on top of a town gate. The mill is still used as a grain mill.
It is also called "Molen van Ruysdael" after a famous painting of 1670 by the Dutch painter Jacob van Ruysdael (see the note upper left).
The usual name "Rijn en Lek" is due to the fact that behind the dike (at the right in the picture) the river Rijn becomes the river Lek.
More information in Dutch, but with additional photos at nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rijn_en_Lek

Capture stunning, it's really majestic,
always beautiful and proud to be still standing and well preservé.

Great Windmill image, much better than the one I took when I was there,
as the lighting on the day I was there was nowhere near as good Peter.
