Be-12 Sea Plane.

Be-12 Sea Plane.
Latvia has managed to coax two of these into the air. Russia is certainly putting the 'frighteners' onto a lot of people these days.

Picture is courtesy of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence.
More interesting details can be read on the site War Is boring.

It is Russian built and flew first in the very early 1950's on anti submarine duties I believe.
That the Latvians got two of them aloft says a lot for their expertise and determination, not to mention their bravery.
If a fight started they would be coming down in pieces and would probably not even know what hit them.
I am not an aviator and would love to hear what any aviator who may see this would have to say.

Google 'Ekranoplan' for a somewhat extreme seaplane....

The Ekranoplan certainly looked impressive as a 'Wave Skimmer'.
It could really move and carried a lot of troops, I have seen pictures of it with missiles mounted on top, and big ones.
I think that they are called 'Ground Effect' machines.
