History:
Former Castle " TER BEKEN" , now St. Paul Seminary. 18th - century castle with walled farmyard in wooded area located on the border of Drongen with Mariakerke .
Feudal lock " Ter Beken" , owned by Mr. van der Beken , lord of Drongen , a part of "It Goetter Beke " . In 1516 the estate belonged to Gilles van der Beken. Afterwards several times changed owners.
In late 1748 Charles - William , Count d' Allegambe , Marquis of Auweghem, the old " Goetter Beke " demolish the existing castle and go up , perhaps designed by the Antwerp architect Baurscheit Jan Pieter the Younger . Early 20th century Amand Casier , a Ghent industrial, since 1922 Baron A. Casier Ter Brooks , owner and restored the castle . During both world wars the castle suffer much damage under occupation by German troops and later by the Canadians . Since 1940 no longer inhabited by Casier . Public auction of the mobi lair in 1948 . Finally in possession of the diocese of Ghent and in 1955 appointed as the so-called St. Paul Seminary : architect Valentin Vaerwyck is responsible for repair of the buildings and the creation of new buildings in custom style .
The property has two entrances in the Beekstraat . Brick and bluestone pillars checkered vase with crown and wrought iron fence in Louis XVI style , the castle and in the northern corner of the domain , respectively.
Original 18th -century moated castle in U-shape located on the Beekstraat . Broad House with water frontage of thirteen bays and two storeys under mansard roof ( slate ) with four dormers on both shields and five chimneys . Plastered and corniced anchored in transition style Lode Truly XIV Louis XV . Middle ressault of three bays with crowning triangular pediment decorated with double shield ( the five shells arms of the family of the Note) with marquis crown , flanked by tenanten , left a naked youth struggle with bat and right a lion rampant .
