Wandering down an unfamiliar street...

Wandering down an unfamiliar street...
...and turning off down some interesting looking side streets, I found a network of old cottages and houses. This little lane is actually the fronts of these houses. Each one has a tiny yard with low walls leading to the front door, and many of the yards were full of colourful flowers. Across the street, opposite the houses, out of sight to the left of this shot were little sheds, at one time occupied by the toilet for each house, but now variously seeming to be garden sheds, derelict, or housing flocks of singing canaries. Between the sheds, little gates lead onto the gardens, several of them clearly in use as allotments. Such attractive and characterful streets to explore, I could have taken hundreds of photographs, but for the glowering suspicion of the residents, chatting in the front yards or busy just inside their open front doors. Early in my delighted exploration, and elderly gentleman planted himself right in front of me, and politely informed me I was in the wrong street. You want to be 'over there', he said, gesturing vaguely into the distance, and then stood and stared at me, while I agreed, thanked him, and retreated back to the main road.
