CANADA: Nova Scotia -- Bay of Fundy

Harbourville Lighthouse, ca. 1950

Harbourville Lighthouse, ca. 1950

Harbourville is a small fishing community on the Bay of Fundy, about halfway between Morden and Black Rock. By the time its lighthouse was established in 1913, Harbourville had also become a tourist destination. In 1930, the light was shown from a mast at the end of the pier and the lighthouse was used only as a daymark. The lighthouse was demolished in 1961.

I remember them tearing down the lighthouse when I was a boy. It was a sad day for the community. They let the wharves and breakwater deteriorate after that to a point where they were beyond repair. Timely repairs would have cost very little.
