Brier Island Lighthouse, ca. 1965

Brier Island Lighthouse, ca. 1965
Brier Island is separated from Long Island by the Grand Passage, the channel linking St. Mary's Bay to the Bay of Fundy.

The Brier Island Light Station is one of the oldest in Canada, having been established in 1809. However, the lighthouse seen here is the third, built in late 1944 after the second lighthouse burned down earlier that year.

The tower is painted in red and white bands, but the bands are not visible on this photo postcard. Apart from the lighthouse and the small shed on the right, all the buildings seen in this view have been demolished.
