Glazier Tavern

Glazier Tavern
Circa 1814-1816, Daniel Glazier had built a hip-roofed tavern on the old Moses Holmes farm. Moses Holmes was the Town Clerk for a long stretch. The size, appearance and construction of this tavern is similar to a house built around the same time in Ashford on Route 89.

The Glazier Tavern faced the East-West Tolland Turnpike near a junction with the North-South Norwich Turnpike running to Stafford. The cape next to the Tavern was most likely the Moses Holmes dwelling, moved west after Holmes deeded his lot where the house stood to the town for a Meeting House Green, expanding the Common or Green to it's present size on the North side of Tolland Turnpike.
