Gettysburg Civil War Farm

Gettysburg Civil War Farm
July 1863 in Gettysburg Pennsylvania, the Blue and the Grey fought the battle that turned the Civil War. This barn was behind Union lines, near where the South's General Pickett launched an ill-fated charge.

The barn is part of the farm, which acted as one of many hospital sites. See preceding picture in this stream.

My humble attempt at prose:

The flash of “Queen Anne’s Lace” highlight the mature August field, interspersed among spikes of grass. Huckleberry Finn whitewash on a centuries-old barn belies the bloody varnish that once splattered the walls of this makeshift field hospital. Butterflies dance from thistle to thistle, looking for a fleeting meal, oblivious to the three-day carnage of July 1863, where 51,000 souls either journeyed to rest with the Eternal, or descended into a darker level of Dante’s Inferno. Twelve-pound howitzers stand in silent testimony to the once-raging battle, to the gaping wound that separated Northern from Southern extremities. Yet nature and time temper the affliction, as Monarchs sway and swing among Summer’s wildflowers. ~ WOLFgang
