Emerald Substation

Emerald Substation
The buses are in and more insulators are installed. I realize just how difficult it is to build such a finely detailed model, and why many people don't like building them!
The substation superstructure is made from Plastruct 1/16" angles and channels. It is strengthened using Plastruct 1/4" triangle gussets. The electrical components are from a Walther's Northern Light & Power Substation kit. The transformer is a metal kit by Selly, with radiators from a Northern Light & Power transformer.

This is patterned after a 1950s type substation. The Walter's kit is patterned after a 1970s or later substation, and was inappropriate for the period I am modeling. I model the early to mid-1950s.

This looks almost like a classic 1950's sub that just got all the stacker multiparts replaced. : )

That's been happening a lot in my neighborhood though--they're replacing them all with sky yuk post insulators now.
