Day Lilies

Day Lilies
Sometimes called day lilies, ditch lilies and other things that make them seem ordinary, these cheery orange flowers are presented here as a reminder of summer during this very cold winter. Here in the American Mid-West, they bloom everywhere in mid-summer. They grow where nothing else cares to: along roadside ditches, in alleys, near garages, fence posts, and all sorts of places, peeking their heads out when you least expect them. Their reliable blooming and perseverance in wet or dry, hot or cold, are one of the few certainties you can count on these days.
