Woodland Floor Slindon

Woodland Floor Slindon
The Shot

Tuesday was a decent sunny day. I took the opportunity for some autumn colour shots. This is a beautiful location where a bridlepath goes through some woods near Slindon in the South Downs, West Sussex, UK. A little off the path I spotted a good clump of fungi growing

I took the picture by putting the camera on the floor.

Taken with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20mm Zoom at 10mm. Taken with auto bracketing for HDR. 3 raw images 2EV spacing. Opened in Photoshop first and each image noise reduced with Noiseware Pro and saved as tiffs.

Photomatix

Outputted in Photomatix to detail enhancer. Click the Camera name top right for the Exif information and details of the settings used.

Photoshop

The -2EV original image was copied and pasted as a new layer with a black layer mask. A brush was then used to show the layer over the sun to tone this down.

The +2EV original image was copied and pasted as a new layer with a black layer mask. A brush was then used to show the layer over parts of the sky to brighten it. Also this was used to brighten the undersides of the fungi.

General adjustments in levels and curves to enhance with layer masks to exclude the highlights.

Vibrance adjustment layer increase 7 points.

Saturation Adjustment Layer, reds used to decrease saturation in the leaves for a more natural look

Brighten adjustment layer to increase brightness a little.

There were some sun rays but these were enhanced a lot with a method in Photoshop. First a duplicate background. Then filter, Blur, Radial Blur, Zoom Blur. The zoom centre was moved to the sun. Layer mode changed to lighten. Layer mask applied and the effect removed from the left of the picture.

Noiseware Pro

Unsharp Mask a little sharpening low radius and higher amount.

Duplicate layer with mask to apply extra sharpening and contrast with low amount and high radius (Clarity Effect) to the picture except some highlights..
