West India Docks Canary Wharf

West India Docks Canary Wharf
The Shot

I took this on my last London day trip.
The picture was taken at the end of the old West India Docks basin near the Canary Wharf financial District. There is an inlet opposite the DLR South Quay station with a path beside it leading to the waterside path where this was taken.

The picture was taken with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 wide angle zoom at 20mm. Taken handheld. 3 raw images 2EV spacing. Opened in Photoshop first and each image noise reduced with Noiseware Pro and saved as tiffs.

Photomatix

Outputted in Photomatix to enhanced Fusion preset which produced the most natural look.. Click the Camera name top right for Exif details and the settings used.

Photoshop

The +2 EV image was copied in as a new layer with a black layer mask and a brush used at varying opacities on the boats and ship in the foreground to bring more detail into shadowed areas.

General adjustments in levels and curves to enhance.

Vibrance layer increase 29 points

Saturation layer blues to reduce the intensity of the blue in the sky and water and slight increase in reds and yellows to improve the lights and reflections.

Topaz Adjust Vibrant Specify preset used to enhance.

An adjustment layer, colour balance, magenta and blues was used to further tone down a green cast in the skyscraper lights with a layer mask used to apply the effect only to the skyscrapers.

Filter, Lens Correction, custom used to straighten verticals and crop.
Noiseware Pro

Unsharp Mask a little sharpening.

Duplicate layer with mask to apply extra sharpening and contrast with low amount and high radius using Unsharp mask (Clarity Effect)
