Lava Flow Tunnel Lanzarote

Lava Flow Tunnel Lanzarote
The Shot

Cueva de los Verdes , the Green Caves is a part of a large lava tunnel system in northern Lanzarote. The caves can only be accessed as part of a guided tour every 20 minutes. In the caves artificial but subtle lighting has been added. This view is in the middle of the Tour in the lower gallery with a view above towards the upper gallery.

The picture was taken with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 wide angle zoom at 10mm. Taken with a Tripod.
3 raw images 2EV spacing.

Photomatix

Outputted in Photomatix to detail enhancer. Click the Camera name top right for Exif details and the settings used.

Photoshop

General adjustments in levels and curves to enhance with layer masks to exclude the highlights.

From the Minus 2 EV image another image was created in Camera Raw at Minus 4 EV. Saturation yellows were increased to match the HDR image. The image was then copied and pasted into the main image with a black layer mask and a brush with varying opacity used to apply it to the highlight areas.

Vibrance layer increase 45 points

Layers flattened before going on to sharpening

First duplicate layer Noiseware Pro and a little sharpening.

Second duplicate layer for clarity effect using Unsharp mask with settings of amount 63 and radius 63

Third duplicate layer Topaz Adjust using Vibrant presets, Detail2. The local adjustments brush in Topaz was used to remove the effect from all except the foreground rocks.

A brightness adjustment layer was used with a layer mask to reduce brightness in the rocks on the left in order to focus the image more on the area on the right.
