Arrecife Church Lanzarote Vertorama

Arrecife Church Lanzarote Vertorama
The Shot

This is an interior view of the Iglesia de San Gines, the parish church of Arrecife, Lanzarote.

The picture was taken with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 wide angle zoom at 10mm This one was an HDR Vertorama combining 7 HDR images of 3 images each so a total of 21 images. There was a lot of overlap between images, probably more than 50%. This was a bit of practice for doing floor to ceiling Vertorama handheld which I may have a go at more when back in the UK. I have done shorter range Vertoramas with a tripod before but for a floor to ceiling shot it does not work without a panorama head, heavy and expensive. Handheld is the alterative using ISO 1600 and trying to get a smooth quick upward motion while taking the auto-bracketed shots.

For so many images I used the batch processing of Photomatix specifying 3 images each set and setting it to set the white balance for all images the same as the middle one of the final image. All images were specified to save as 32 bit EXR files which Photoshop can read. No tonemapping at this stage.

The images were combined using Photoshop CS5 photomerge in the cylinder setting. Meant for panoramas so turned final image 90 degrees when done.

Then the image was opened again in Photomatix and tonemapped

Photoshop

First used my own settings to suit to bring detail back using Topaz adjust.

Transform command used to straighten and later used lens correction filter custom for fine tuning.

When cropping to remove the spaces round the final image I left the blank corners in to get more of the height and width of the image and used the clone tool to fill in the gaps.

General adjustments in levels and curves to enhance.

Vibrance layer increase 77 points

Layers flattened before going on to sharpening

First duplicate layer Noiseware Pro and a little sharpening.

Second duplicate layer for clarity effect using Unsharp mask with settings of amount 57 and radius 57
