Hotel Volcan Candled Entrance

Hotel Volcan Candled Entrance
The Shot

For this picture I was staying at Playa Blanca at a 5 Star Hotel as a special treat for a couple of nights. This is the Hotel Volcan which is very photogenic as well as the adjoining Marina. The picture shows the entrance passage to the Hotel which is done as an imitation Church. The Candles are lit at sunset.

The picture was taken on a Tripod with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 wide angle zoom at 10 mm. 3 raw images 2EV spacing. I used a Photoshop Action created earlier to open the images in Camera Raw and create extra exposures to produce a total of 7 images with 1EV separation for a wider dynamic range. The same Action automatically opened each image in Photoshop and noise was reduced with Noiseware Pro and saved as tiffs.

Outputted in Photomatix to detail enhancer. Click the Camera name top right for Exif details and the settings.

The -2EV image was brought in as a new layer and applied with a brush using a layer mask to the highlight areas.

General adjustments in levels and curves to enhance.

Vibrance layer increase 43 points.

2 brightness adjustment layers with layer masks were used to reduce brightness in some areas and increase in others.

Filter Lens Correction custom used to straighten verticals and also slight horizontal adjustment and then cropped.

Noiseware Pro

Duplicate layer with mask to apply extra sharpening and contrast with amount 65 and radius 65 using Unsharp mask (Clarity Effect) Some areas excluded with layer mask

Topaz adjust used with my own settings to suit to bring back detail. Done with a duplicate layer and layer mask used to exclude some parts at the side.

Clone brush used with varying opacities and hardness to tidy up some highlight areas on the walls.
