Bath Abbey Vaulted Ceiling

Bath Abbey Vaulted Ceiling
The Shot

This is a shot I got round to processing from my visit to Bath abbey in December last year. This is a shot looking up at the vaulted ceiling of one of the side areas off the main Nave. Taken handheld with ISO 800.

The picture was taken with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 wide angle zoom at mm. 3 raw images 2EV spacing. Opened in Photoshop first and each image noise reduced with Noiseware Pro and saved as tiffs.

Outputted in Photomatix to detail enhancer. Click the Camera name top right for Exif details and the settings used.

General adjustments in levels and curves to enhance with layer masks to exclude highlights.

Vibrance layer increase 8 points.

Hue Saturation layer yellows minus 40 to reduce yellow tone in upper ceiling for a more natural look.

2 Brightness adjustment layers with masks, one to bring down brightness in windows and the second to increase brightness in ceilings on the upper left and upper right.

Layers flattened before going on to sharpening

First duplicate layer Noiseware Pro and a little sharpening.

Second duplicate layer for clarity effect using Unsharp mask with settings of amount 62 and radius 62.

Topaz Adjust, Vibrance presets Detail 2 to bring in more detail with adjustments to reduce effect and add a slight vignette.
