Pannage

Pannage
At this time of year, it is traditional in the New Forest for pigs to be let loose into the Forest for about two months. They eat up the fallen acorns, beechmast, chestnuts etc, which can be harmful to the ponies. They have two or three rings in their snouts to prevent them digging too deep and damaging the forest floor

Diane Putnam, buonacoppi, Nouchetdu38, Wiltrud Ludt and 37 other people have particularly liked this photo

Terrific shot, although I did read recently about an attack by a 'gang' of pigs here on a walker!

I really like this one Judith.................such a delightful sight. I've heard of this tradition before, but I've never seen the pigs roaming around. Fascinating info about the rings......who would have guessed why?

HFF to you and have a piggin' good weekend.

PS: View large, on black - it looks marvellous..!!
