My first of this species wild in England since 2009. Seen near Newton, Suffolk, England.

What excitement, Dean. And it allowed you to get a good shot. I've seen a number of shots of them on Ip and flickr. They seem to be on the increase. I'd stopped expecting butterflies up here in our garden this year unless a red admiiral came our way but they seem to have been very scarce this year. To my surprise I was out playing with my camera in the garden about an hour ago when I saw a butterfly flutter. It was a speckled wood. I managed one shot a fair distance away but I'm hoping it might be back and get less shy of me this afternoon.

Very excited indeed Monica, yes. Thank you for your compliment. It eventually let me get some pics, but before that it was flying around so much without settling that I almost gave up. Glad I persisted though. I hope you get a few more flutterbies up your way soon, and good luck with that speckled wood; they are rather jumpy, aren't they. :-)

A lovely capture Dean. Sharp & beautiful. I saw my first one in Shropshire last week since 2009 also!

Thank you Chrissy. :-) I'm glad you saw one too, and how funny that the week you saw it and years since you last saw one correspond with my sighting. :-)
