Shield bug

Photographed on Ivy in our garden, I was thrilled to see this little beauty.
I don't know much at all about these creatures, but I assume that they hibernate in this state and wake up when the sun is reasonably warm, as it was today, with an air temperature of about 15 degrees celsius.
