1952 Ferrari 500

1952 Ferrari 500
Pictured is a 1952 Ferrari 500 Grand Prix Car.

The car is actually a Formula 2 car, the category that was given World Championship status from 1952-1953 due to a lack of competitive Formula 1 machinery.

It was driven in 1952 and 1953 by double World Champion Alberto Ascari and other Formula 1 greats such as the first World Champion Giuseppe Farina, Luigi Villoresi, Piero Taruffi and Mike Hawthorn, to name but a few.

Of the 17 races held in 1952 and 1953 (including two World Championship Indianapolis 500 races), the 500 won 14 times, giving Ascari the title in both years. It didn't compete at Indianapolis, so was only beaten once in competition at the final race of 1953 in Italy.
