Clydesdale Bank House

Clydesdale Bank House
35 Regent Street, London St. James's, SW1

Clydesdale Bank is a Scottish bank that was established in 1838. In 1920 it was taken over by London-based Midland Bank. Midland got into financial troubles in the mid-1980s, and sold Clydesdale Bank to National Australia Bank (NAB) Group in 1987.

Yorkshire Bank was established in 1859 and became part of NAB in 1990 along with Northern Ireland's Northern Bank.

After the global financial crisis of 2007, NAB's British operations lost lots of money, and was deemed too small to compete with other British banks. Not willing to expand or buy other local lenders, NAB spun off Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks into an independent bank in 2016 known as CYBG plc.
