Gopher

Gopher
The gophers at Horse Thief Canyon aren't particularly afraid of humans.

My mother had never seen gophers in her life till here, and she was both amused and overjoyed to see these "little rodents with cute small eyes".

Partial quote from Wikipedia:

"Pocket gophers, commonly referred to as gophers, are burrowing rodents of the family Geomyidae. About 35 species of gophers live in Central and North America. They are commonly known for their extensive tunnelling activities. Gophers are endemic to North and Central America."
