After failing to find a suitable restaurant in Westminster, I took the tube to the lively and seedy Chinatown and Leicester Square and ate at a little place.

Thank you Keith. It shows up well in the photo, but the area is a bit too seedy for my liking, actually.

This area has always been just seedy enough for me, Swire. I used to hang out at the Crystal Room, which survives at the near corner of the Hippodrome, although maybe with a different name, and at the long-gone Buccaneer Bar across the street, where I used to monopolize the jukebox by playing "Green Onions," "Mockingbird" (the Inez and Charlie Foxx version), and "Misty Blue" over and over. They once had to turn off the jukebox and take it away after I punched in "Misty Blue" about 20 times. That may sound antisocial but it was either that or let people play "Sylvia's Mother" (this was in 1972).

I saw an excellent three-card monte performance around the corner once. As a late friend of mine used to say, if criminals put as much effort into something straight as they do into being criminals they'd all be rich instead of cooling their bums in the joint. The guys running the three-card monte game demonstrated the intellect necessary to win the Nobel Prize for physics.

"The guys running the three-card monte game demonstrated the intellect necessary to win the Nobel Prize for physics" really made me laugh out loud! I'd have loved to see that with my own eyes!
