The most profitable markets of Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo used the newer DC-10 airliner, whereas the less important markets of Manila, Peiking (Beijing) and Shanghai used the older DC-8.

Back in the 1970s, nonstop trans-continental flights were reserved for the most premium markets such as Geneva to New York. Today, one would fly nonstop from Zurich to Hong Kong, but flight SR300 back in 1976 involved many stops: Geneva - Zurich - Vienna - Athens - Karachi - Bombay - Bangkok - Hong Kong.

I used to collect airline timetables because all my life, I wanted to work in airline operations. As a kid, I was always fascinated by flight scheduling, and read airline schedules for fun. I'm a keen, self-professed reader of flight schedules and they were composed by hand back then, mistakes can happen. I can often spot mistakes in timetables. There is at least one in this timetable.
