How to keep your indoor plants watered while away

How to keep your indoor plants watered while away
Well, actually I went to the hardware/ home furnishing store to look for something that would keep my plants moist while we were away. But alas, they don't sell them. So I resorted to an older method. Actually the older method is also cheaper, so I've added this photo to the Am I Ever Cheap! album.

Things that you'd need:

1) rope made of cotton, hemp or linen.
2) a plastic or glass bottle or bowl or pail

First, soak the entire rope in water for about 5 minutes until it's completely wet.

Then place one end of the wet rope around the indoor plant(s) that you want to be kept moist while you're on vacation.

Place the other end of the wet rope in the bottle/ pail or bowl of water. Now, you must make sure the bottle/ pail/ bowl of water is placed higher than the plants or it won't work.

The law of physics and hydrology will slowly draw water from the higher bottle down towards the soil in the pot.

So, did it work?? You bet! My plants were greener when we came back than before!

Hi Jorlam! Actually it's not me, I wish I'm that innovative! I learnt it from a TV program at least 25 years ago in Hong Kong :0

That was a sore point...especially after they got their canes out!

Ah, the canes. Yes, we had those in HK schools also. So did my parents. But I must admit that the canes made us rascals rather disciplined.
