Haarlem Station

Haarlem Station
Haarlem Station occupies an important part of the Dutch railways history. In 1839, the very first railway service in the Netherlands began operations between Haarlem and Amsterdam. The original Haarlem Station opened in 1842, and was refurbished in the Art Noveau style between 1905 and 1908.

During my visit in September 2014, the Dutch Railways Nederlandse Spoorwegen actually celebrated its 175th anniversary in several cities across the country.

Do you know that Harlem (the one in New York City) is named after Haarlem in Holland? Actually the souther tip of Manhattan, where the financial district of New York is now, was known as Nieuw-Amstderdam before because Manhattan was colonized by the Dutch in the 17th century.
