The Oval Room, Teylers Museum, Haarlem

The Oval Room, Teylers Museum, Haarlem
This is the Oval Room, built in 1784 and is the oldest part of the Teylers Museum. It houses an eccentric array of machines of electro-magnetism, thermometry, vacuum, telescopes, rocks and crystals, amongst other things of science.

While most museums showcase antiquities, they usually are furnished in modern settings, with new display cases, modern lights, and contemporary walls and flooring etc.

Teylers Museum is different. Being here is like travelling back at least 100 years. The museum is unique in the sense that its display, décor, and exhibits have hardly changed since the 19th century by design. This series of rooms displays things of natural science, physics, and geology.
