Een bakfiets: rare bicycle in Toronto

Een bakfiets: rare bicycle in Toronto
In Holland this is known as a bakfiets -- bak is a box, whereas a fiets is a bicycle. So bakfiets means a "box bicycle," or a cargo bicycle. In Holland such bikes are quite common; in Canada, they are a rare sight for sure.

Seen on Broadview Avenue at Dundas Street East in Toronto.

Nice catch. I've seen people using them to carry their children around in, not sure how safe it is though.

Yes, me too. I think they're still better than the baby-trailer though. At least the children are in the front and not the back behind the cyclist.

De Ome Bertus Memoires
De Ome Bertus Memoir…
In Holland gebruiken veel moeders zo'n bakfiets om de kinderen mee naar school te brengen. In the netherlands those "boxbikes" are also used by parents to bring the kids to school.
We also use it as Cargo Bike.
Thanks Canadian for nice taken picture.

Bedankt voor de informatie!

And thanks for the bi-lingual comment. I only know a few Dutch words, so it's nice to read and learn more all the time. Hartelijke groeten uit Canada.
