Back when Northern was Midland's

Back when Northern was Midland's
A big special thank-you to my Irish friend Neill, whom I met in May 2013 during my trip to Ireland, for sending me these banking ephemera. As the saying goes, someone's junk is another's treasure!

Northern Bank of Belfast was taken over by Midland Bank in 1965, but in 1987 loan losses at Midland forced the British bank to divest non-core operations, and Northern Bank was sold to National Australia Bank Group. Then in 2005, NAB sold Northern Bank to Denmark's Danske Bank.

Midland Bank itself was acquired by the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corp. (HSBC) between 1987 and 1992.

O, the good old griffin... That bank was never the same when they got rid of the griffin.

Banks are so impersonal these days... not like the old days. Hi Rhisiart!
