From Hong Kong: Shanghai

From Hong Kong: Shanghai
Another example to show London's financial power. Shanghai Commercial Bank is a small bank from Hong Kong and I was surprised to see that they've a small building in London. But London is so important that any bank needs to maintain an office there.

After the 1949 revolution when the Communists took over China, and the subsequent devastating Cultural Revolution (1966 to 1976), many Chinese refugess left China for British-administered Hong Kong. Businessmen from Shanghai often named their businesses "Shangahi + something" when they opened shop in Hong Kong. This is why this Shanghai Commercial Bank is actually registered in Hong Kong.
