Puzzled Concierge at Hoare Bank

Puzzled Concierge at Hoare Bank
Ten years ago in 1997 I visited England for the first time and I went to Stourhead House in Wiltshire. I later on learnt that the manor house belongs to the Hoare family, who founded Hoare's Bank in 1672. Their bank is still in business today and here's their head office at 37 Fleet Street. The well-dressed doorman saw me and my camera and was a little puzzled that I should take a photo of him and the bank building. He had a little smirk on his face!

And then, I learnt that this building, No. 37 Fleet Street, is formerly the site of the old Mitre Tavern, which counted Shakespeare and Ben Johnson as its patrons.
