Big Red S

Big Red S
A-hem, I've always considered myself pretty knowledgeable on the British banking industry, I know the High Street banks like HSBC (formerly Midland), NatWest (part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group), Lloyds TSB, Barclays, Halifax-Bank of Scotland, as well as the smaller mortgage banks like Abbey (part of Banco Santander), Alliance & Leicester, Northern Rock and Bradford & Bingley. But I've to confess that I'd never heard of the Scarborough Building Society until I came across this office in York.

Scarborough Building Society is still proudly in its original mutual form, which means that it's mutually owned by its customers (depositors and borrowers), and not owned by shareholders.
