Wachovia on Third Avenue

Wachovia on Third Avenue
I'm afraid there would be a series of bank photos for a while. It's me the banking history buff, in New York City, after all.

This is Wachovia's branch at 757 Third Avenue at East 47th Street.

Wachovia (the geographical area in Pennsylvania) was so named because it was settled by Austro-German settlers who came from Der Wachau in the 18th century. Wachovia is a Latinized name of Der Wachau.

In 2008, Wachovia became insolvent and was taken over by Wells Fargo & Co. following a brief battle with Citigroup.
