The Chinese-Italian Banking Corporation banknote

The Chinese-Italian Banking Corporation banknote
My late father's banknote collection.

The banking sector in major Chinese port cities during the late 19th and early 20th centuries was dominated by foreign banks. Foreign banks were much better financed and managed than local Chinese banks at the time. In particular, British, American, French, German, Belgian, Dutch, and Japanese banks were generally better-trusted and regarded than the Chinese banks.

This led to a number of banks with mostly Chinese capital and management teams seeking whatever little foreign capital involvement they could find, and calling themselves a Sino-foreign joint-venture bank. One of them is this Chinese-Italian Banking Corp., with supposedly very minimal Italian involvement. Very little information survived about this bank, unfortunately.
