Piaget et Cartier on Ice House Street

Piaget et Cartier on Ice House Street
The Cartier shop at Prince's Building. No. 10, Chater Road.

How times have changed... Hong Kong people used to look down on tourists from China... they're poor, cheap, had poor manners, didn't speak Cantonese and didn't know anything about anything.

Well, some Chinese tourists can still have poor manners... but they have money... far far more money than Hong Kong people. Now Hong Kong is home to some of the largest and most lavish outlets of Cartier, Piaget, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Van Cleef & Arpels, Chanel, Hermès, Rolex, Patek Phillipe and Harry Winston in the world, all thanks to Chinese tourists from Mainland.

Like it or not, Hong Kong's economy now relies on hot money from China. Now Hong Kong people can no longer laugh at the Mandarin-speaking tourists, quite the contrary, they are all learning to speak Mandarin to make sales to them.

Money talks, money walks.
