Corner of an Inner Court at Tai Fu Tai

Corner of an Inner Court at Tai Fu Tai
I suspect this is a corner of the courtyard for the family to "chill out," to use a 21st century term, on a hot summer night, for the corner has been named 玩月, roughly meaning "appreciation of the moon," or "for the enjoyment of the lunar scene."

Since Tai Fu Tai was the residence of a scholar-gentry, the house is rather decorated with poems. And here there is another case of couplet, or counterpoint poetry (對聯) on the wall, describing the scene of dawn when the courtyard was still empty from the presence of the family.

(Rough translation, with some modification to accomodate the English language and syntax)

Petals 'neath the trees, the maid has yet to sweep
Chirps from the woods, tired guests are still to wake
