Unleash the Luminous Child of Reason
Unleash the luminous child of reason.
Let her innocence confound
the old philosophies, and speak
of things too clear for them
to see: the earth’s orbit is
an ellipse. Words of treaties
will rearrange into poems.
Naval boats can rescue whales.
The cash they spent on planes
makes perfect windmills, buys
space for trees – and all this free
time we’ll have when the wars
have ended, we’ll spend making
paintings, watching birds,
putting on plays, constructing
new musical instruments,
playing uncompetitive sports,
making friends, discovering stars.
Unleash the luminous child of reason.
She has been tethered so long
we think her foolish, or naiive,
but at bottom, we’re afraid
that let loose, she will toddle
amongst us with her set of keys,
and her child’s breath on our
cheeks, unlocking all our chains.
Poem by Giles Watson, 2014. The title is reputed to have been one of the sayings of Hypatia of Alexandria.

This message is to let you know that I've taken a good, long, appreciative look at your image. I'll have spent the time to see the care you've spent with depth of field, composition, lighting and details. If you meant to make a statement, you know I'll get it. If your picture evokes a feeling or mood, I will experience it. It means a lot to me that you've picked just the right image or gone to the effort to specifically take a picture for our wonderful new ipernity group, and I have been enjoying myself immensely as I look at every picture in the group.
Updates to my great and exciting news! If you didn't read my note last week, I'll be starting a new full-time job in less than a week and I'm so excited! (For the past 8 years, I've been working part-time as a freelance designer.) This being said, I need to prepare for my position and get our house ready so our three dogs and bird will be ok being alone all day. Update! We now have another car, the backyard has a fenced area, and my other preparations are progressing nicely!
Although I'm busy doing a lot of other things, I do have time to visit and view every picture in our group with care. I don't have time to leave individual comments on every picture, but I may be able to sometimes, or I may leave a note on your picture! I hope you understand! Once my job is underway, I will try to organize my time so I can go back to giving everyone a personal comment about their picture. Just know that, even though this is merely a cut-and-paste comment, I have given your picture the attention that it deserves, and I have appreciated your talent and choice! :)
Thank you for participating in our group, 10-Week Picture Projects: Color Wheel
