8. The Water’s Moment
for Madeline Winton

The water has reached its moment:
time stops so I can seize it, my touch
creating ripples that linger on for days.

If I swim out past that stone, the swirls
wash together like two pulses, ebbing
into time. Their notes wash into tune

and suns pause in their trails. I wade
to shore, sluice molten mirror, slick
off quicksilver, await the rise of moons.
