Bannack

Bannack
..... is a ghost town in Beaverhead County, Montana, United States. The roads and boardwalks are deserted. The doors sway in the wind. There are no children laughing and adults gossiping. The gold rush is long over. It is but a memory left in old dusty journals. With nightfall the spirits return to tell their tales. Bannack has a rich and colorful history. Since the first gold was taken from the gravels of the Grasshopper Creek in 1862 to the present day, Bannack has touched the lives of many. As we walk the streets and boardwalks and explore the buildings that were once filled with laughter, greed and sorrow try to imagine what life was like in this early day mining town.

Super panorama and setting; love the subdued colouring, and texture.

It seems strange to me (small, somewhat crowded island) that there is so much space in the USA that a place can be abandoned.....and no-one live there. It looks a good place to be...

Love your processing here Duane. It really accentuated the kind of surreal feeling of a deserted town in the middle of nowheresville! I hope you and your family are keeping well my friend!

Firstly, it's a superb shot. 2ndly, it amazes me that life in the place couldn't be sustained after the gold rush...surely there were other things going on too? Seems strange that they all just packed up and left. Really interesting.

o0o they do say every picture tells a tale and most certainly yours does.
The nearest I have been to anything like this was in Almeria, Spain where
they did day trips to an area used when making spaggetti westerns I think
they used to call them, I think thats the nearest I have been to a deserted
town / village like this, where I guess you can hear the windows creak
and the doors moan on a windy day ;-) if walls could only talk, what a
tale they would have to tell. Love your clouds and setting and it does
fire the imagination, through your words also ;-) oOo

"Beaverhead" here if a reference contains the words like Beaver, it will undoubtedly have
been linked to Beavers at some time or other, perhaps a river running through an area
where they built their fams ... just wondered ... any link or is just a name :)

The county name is derived from a rock formation, which the Shoshone Indians described as being shaped like a beaver's head.

o0o and so in part, I was thinking along the right lines as they say ;-)
the name Beverley means "Beaver Valley" and so I always am aware
of the name and possible associatons, thanks for the info oOo

Amazing. I've never seen a ghost town. It's hard to imagine that everyone would desert a town, but you definitely have the photo to prove it.

A ghost town in a beautiful setting, but still standing and not "redeveloped " which is marvellous. Fascinating to go there, and if you can't to see it in this image

Oh, this is wonderful, a true ghost town, I got to show this to my 14th year old son who dreams to fly to USA and visit such towns !!! And the best this one is not for tourist, it realy is a ghost town !!
I love such places that people had deserted for a long time... I once have seen a wonderful book about Detroit ghost houses, and it is the same feelings of emptiness and nostalgia....

What i wouldn't give to be able to photograph old towns
and scenery like this, it's just something we don't have
over here, and of course, your processing is just superb,
it really brings your photos to life, but there is a stillness
of a time long gone which you have captured perfectly.
Really fantastic, well done.
