After a break between March 2020 and April 2023, the latter part largely self-imposed, during the Covid-19 Pandemic, we have re-started regular visits to Whitehaven, and the Miller-Fifer ...

The sea scouts building has been backlit by the setting sun. Apparently *they* are planning to demolish all three structures on this quay - on "safety" grounds. (1 of 3)

In almost the last of the evening light, two yachts make their way into the outer harbour, heading in for the sea lock.

The Candlestick, viewed in the twilight, before the floodlighting switches on.
Maybe imaging things, but that blurred bird looks somewhat like the local heron, as opposed to a gull.

This conspicuous feature on the shoreline, underneath Bransty, is "whitey rock" ... This slag bank is almost the only feature remaining to mark the location of the Lonsdale Haematite Ironworks, which ceased production at the very start of the twentieth century, just after Whitehaven's shipyards had closed, greatly reducing demand.

The catch net has a significant quantity of rubbish collected from the water around the Marina pontoons.

The sandstone used to build the West Pier at Whitehaven has a number of interesting inclusions. Quartzite and ironstone, in the main. More or less distinct signs of "current bedding" are visible on some of the stones.

Just in front of the line of bollards is the site of a turnout (points) to a loop. The main route continues in a straight line - marked by the light grey patches. The loop line runs away from the two removable bollards (the middle pair) parallel with the main line.

A few members of Whitehaven Sailing and Boating Association are preparing to set off on a race. A few minutes later and they were all heading towards St Bees Head.
