The original was a "Simpson-Lawrence" - but looked very similar, most "sea-toilets" are like this.

Really? I have to admit I have used the loo only on one ship in my life, and it was a really big passenger ferry I had to be on for more than 7 hours, so could not avoid it. The facilities in the loo stalls there looked not that different from public loos on the land to me and the paper rolls where for sure in standard roll holders you expect at any highway rest station. The thing with loos on a ship is, they have no means at watching the horizon while the ground still moves in them, and I fear to increase my seasickness in such a moving chamber, so I make sure I do not need them when on the water for shorter time. :D
