1001 - buckets

1001 - buckets
This poor little vessel, in need of rescue, has an interesting method of going astern.
It is fitted with "Kitchen" gear (buckets).

She looks battered and what's the interesting method of going astern?

Dropping something called "buckets" down over the prop / wash to reverse the direction on thrust.
This boat needs rescuing........she is tied up, but unfortunately sits on the bottom and fills every tide.

The Royal Navy used to use such a system of 'buckets' over the prop on quite large pinnaces. I have forgotten the name of the system but it was very effective.

An update - I have recently been informed that this is Kitcheners' gear (I may have got that spelling a bit wrong, as I've not seen it in print, yet)
