What a difference - the nest is now an old and comfortable armchair, for the post feed snooze. Has been observed to pick up and eat deliberately dropped mealworms. Generally chucking the loose leaves about.....all natural (instinctive) activity,

Smiley Derleth, J. Gafarot, Daniel Palacin, Roy Lowry and 8 other people have particularly liked this photo

Thank you all.

To be able to save something from such dreadful weather, the effort has been well worth it and I have learnt a lot about nestling development.

How wonderful ..have just looked at all the series..what happened to it in the end..did you let it go?..or was it so domesticated you couldn't?..
Am surprised the male was killed in the storm..was that because he was protecting the nest do you think?

Oh, he was released into the wild (starting to moult into adult black feathers) after a while in an outside aviary.
The male died on the nest attempting to brood the nestlings, we had seen him do this several times in the early days.
