Cat of the regiment

Cat of the regiment
I thought I'd borrow Nancy's caturday theme to post this little guy, who seems to have been given a little crown with what looks like it might be a stuffed (or fake) bird on top by the men in his regiment. He's the king of caturday! (and the feline kind of obedience. I don't know of many cats that would sit so still for a photo shoot. but, then again, he is a military cat ;3)

There is no date or extra information on the reverse, but I looked up flags with 12 stars and found this page ( ) on rare flags that identifies a 13 star medallion pattern which has a circle of eight stars around a single central star, with one extra star in each corner. It seems that must be the pattern in question and the lower, right-hand corner star is just obscured by the glare on that part of the flag. According to the site, this pattern was most popular around the centennial celebrations of 1876, but dates back as far as the civil war or even earlier. So, the picture must have been made sometime between the civil war and the centennial.

corduroy cat, Alan Mays, plaisanter, elinor04 (Nóra Mészöly) have particularly liked this photo
