From football to frocks....Grayson Perry's Turner Prize dress

From football to frocks....Grayson Perry's Turner Prize dress

It's not all football on Rabbit's Liverpool itinerary. Here he is in the lovely Walker Gallery admiring some interesting frocks. The dresses were created by English artist Grayson Perry, who was awarded the Turner Prize in 2003 for his intricately decorated ceramics. Perry collected the Turner Prize wearing this dress which he embroidered with rabbits, some of them including the name 'Claire' - his transvestite alter ego. In his speech, Perry said 'it's about time a transvestite potter won the Turner!'.

Rabbit loved these little embroidered rabbits, and the gorgeous satin material.

Yes, I can see that Rabbit is well taken with all these embroidered rabbits :-) A clever musical match for 'Sight and Sound' :-) I never did buy "Astral Weeks".....perhaps I need to correct this error!

Thanks Roger! The album (and the dress!) are perhaps acquired tastes. But Rabbit is very eclectic in his tastes, as you know....

Good collage. Yes, looks to be right up Rabbit's warren (more of an apt end to this idiom than street, I think!).

A fascinating collage. I've never given much thought to Grayson Perry's frocks before but seeing this and reading the notes has made me pay attention. Maybe Rabbit could take up sewing. Embellish his wardrobe with carrot and lettuce motifs.

Me neither, Jean, and I must confess I've never seen his ceramics, but I did enjoy his Reith Lectures a few years ago, he was very engaging and thought-provoking.

A fascinating collage..............and some interesting biographical stuff in the link.

Please delete my note if you don't like it..........I don't know if you arranged it deliberately, but it almost looks like Rabbit is wearing that frock ;-)

that's really funny, Keith, I hadn't noticed that! You're right, Rabbit would look very fetching indeed!

I'm sure Rabbit enjoys seeing rabbits in art. They don't get as much attention as they deserve from most artists.
