1st Church of Christ Scientist

1st Church of Christ Scientist
This lovely old church, dedicated 1898, was designed by Walter Ware, one of Salt Lake City's most notable architects. Due to diminishing congregation, the Christian Scientists sold this building several years ago, and consolidated with a neighboring congregation. For a few years a fancy antique store used the building. I took these 3 shots last June (2007), but wasn't satisfied with them...thought I'd eventually do a retake. Well, too late now.

To my dismay, I suddenly saw the building painted a cream color in December 2007 (all but the sandstone arches) and renamed Iglesias la Luz del Mundo. (Church of the Light of the World). I think it's lovely that it's a church again, but why, oh why, paint it? It looked so much more beautiful before. Click on the set for before and after shots.

UPDATE: After jst a few months, the cream-colored paint has been removed. Hooray!
